Proven to be the most effective, trouble-free design available, “Type DB” AC rectified DC motor brakes are ideal for overhead cranes on hoist, bridge, and trolley drives. The direct acting positive braking features mean remarkable performance, unmatched simplicity and durability. The DB disc brakes’ highly rapid setting time results in fast, positive stops at the very moment when power is removed. Upon power restoration, a fleeting delay in brake release causes the motor to drive momentarily through a partly released brake. This more deliberate acceleration sets up softer, smoother starts that improve inching and spotting effectiveness.

A low braking pressure reduces thermal wear, enhances lining life, and excludes any need for mechanical cooling. Reduced armature stroke, simple mechanical structure, and a stationary electromagnet eliminate the hammering action and vibration that often shorten brake life. The DB’s exceptional design requires the least possible maintenance and makes the brake virtually self-adjusting.

Two AC to DC rectifiers are available for the “DB” series brakes. One, normally used on traverse drives, provides 100% power to the magnet coil. The other controller, a forced voltage type, provides 250% power to the magnet coil to initiate the brake release. Upon brake release, the power reduces to 25%. The forced voltage controller provides a faster release and setting time for the brake.

  • Epoxy potted encapsulated magnet coil with copper magnet wire, Class “F” insulation rated 75 “C” at 40 degree “C” ambient.
  • Automatic brake shoe centering and alignment to the brake wheel.
  • Bonded non-asbestos linings for long shoe life.
  • Simple shoe replacement, removable from either brake side.
  • Program available for relining used brake shoes at the factory.
  • Pivot pins all steel, hardened and interchangeable for each brake size.
  • Conveniently positioned adjustment points located on top of brake.
  • Top-hinged armature design to prevent accumulating foreign matter.
  • Ductile iron brake wheels available semifinished (maximum offset and rough bored) as standard, or finished machined as special.

The “ESB” brake’s ultra smooth operation is a direct result of a reduced armature stroke (air gap), simple mechanical structure, and a stationary magnetic brake coil. Eliminated are the hammering action and vibration that often shorten brake life. This exceptional design achieves maximum effectiveness while requiring a minimum of maintenance.

A forced voltage AC to DC rectifier provides 250% power to the magnet coil to initiate the brake release. Upon brake release, the power reduces to 25%. This forced voltage design provides quicker release and setting times for the brake.
